WINTER 2021 TRENDS YOU NEED IN YOUR CLOSET

Wow, what a year. 2020 has tested us all in so many ways. Whether you spent your quarantine hitting the gym, cutting your own hair, or complaining about the fact you have to miss a party and stay home despite all the people dying (cough cough).

The phrase ____ is my going to be my year has a brand new meaning this season. I think it's fair to say we're all ready to step up and reinvent ourselves this season. I know I am.

Personal story time: I actually really didn't mind quarantine. It gave me so much time to reflect and think about what I really want. Ever since I got my first job, I was constantly on the go. I'm a productive person, and if I'm not doing something, I get anxious. I talked about this in my last blog post, but SELF CARE IS SO IMPORTANT. If you need to lay in bed and do nothing all day, then just do it. You deserve it. Quarantine gave us all a chance to relax. A global pandemic isn't what I necessarily had in mind for relaxation (and the whole thing was far from relaxing), however in life we have to accept what's thrown at us and carry on (wow, cheesy I know).

Given the fact we all had to stay home for basically the whole year, 2021 is going to be a fun year for fashion. Whatever is popping off in the fashion world usually reflects that previous season. 2020 robbed us of so many things, sporting events, concerts, fairs, etc. All of this built up energy plays into a fun fashion year.

That brings us to our first fashion trend; psychedelic prints & patterns

In case you haven't heard, the 70s are back. Fleetwood Mac and ABBA are on repeat. Flared jeans are getting sold out by the minute.

2020 was a year to speak your truth. So many people took advantage of their platform to spread awareness (which is amazing!!!). That bold energy is being carried into this fashion season, in the form of funky prints and patterns. The best part, is most of these pieces can be found for cheap at the thrift store (see ya fast fashion).

Style these with a key color from the print or mix and match with other fun prints. You can literallyyyy do whatever you want with this.

Fashion tip: You can really wear whatever you want as long as you make it your own.

WHERE TO BUY:

Cool is a Construct

Lisa Says Gah

Motel Rocks

Next up: Bold Pink and Green

2020 brought us back the love of pastels, thanks to a nod to the y2k era. However, this upcoming season is seeing a shift in hues. Bold pinks and greens have slowly been appearing in the fashion world.

These fun colors look amazing with their pastel counterparts.

WHERE TO BUY (literally anywhere, but here are some of my fav direct links to pieces)

In Venice Bias Cut Midi Dress // Green

Cherry Bomb Cropped Cardigan // Pink

Hot Pink Wide Leg Jogger // Pink

Stepping into the spotlight: knee high boots

Not to be confused with the infamous over the knee boots that we're popping off over the past few years thanks to Kylie Jenner. These boots are a little shorter (bonus points if they're a platform).

I always will adore a basic black boot, but honestly i'm loving the fun patterns (like the hearts below).

This little addition can make any outfit instantly more put together. Plus, they're actually pretty comfy. Style this wardrobe staple with literally anything. Like I said before, wear whatever you want.

WHERE TO BUY:

Princess Polly

Lamoda

Naked Wolfe (a splurge, but we love)

Seeing (through) the future: Mesh Tops

Mesh tops are super in this season and can add a fashionable extra layer for those cooler days. I live in Chicago, so I appreciate a good layer.

Mesh tops were super in for 2016, however they're making a come back in the form of funky prints (trend crossover). Mesh like cardigans with small buttons (90s inspired) are also super in.

WHERE TO BUY:

Shein

Forever 21

Cider

Another trend i'm loving: fur trim.

If you're looking to make any outfit instantly classy, throw on a fur trim cardigan or jacket. Again, this adds an extra layer to keep you stylish and warm. God knows the 'Windy City' basically begs for a bundled up outfit.

I've been seeing so many colors and prints (mainly animal) at literally any trendy store. Not looking to splurge on some (faux) fur? Good thing fur trim was in during the 00s, because you can find this look at any thrift store. I can honestly say most of these trends are best done thrifted for a more unique/individualized look.

WHERE TO BUY:

Zara

Yesstyle

Asos

Lastly: Funky Statement Rings.

Love. love. love.

Some people might not be too fond of these crazy rings. However, I'm a huge fan of finding unusual pieces and making them your own.

I think rings (acsessroies in general) can really elevate any outfit. Sweatpant Sunday, but wanna look more put together? Throw on some rings, earrings, literally whatever you want.

Main point of this blog post (for the third time): WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT AND MAKE IT YOUR OWN. One of my favorite things about fashion is the creativity behind it.

I'm a sucker for a classic gold or silver ring, but these chunky color rings are really catching my eye. My Pinterest home page loves them too.

WHERE TO BUY:

Le Manso

Frasier Sterling

MAKE YOUR OWN

Winter 2021 is already a colorful and exciting fashion season, which means spring and summer should be even more bold and crazy. I can't wait to see what's in store for that.

PERSONAL UPDATE: If you follow my Instagram (main, design) you know I'm launching my clothing line soon! I'm seriously so stoked to see where Liz The Label is gonna go. I originally planned to launch on the 25th, however due to personal reasons this date is slightly delayed. Mental health over everything lol.

I'm continuing to post on my Youtube channel and planning to upload later this week! I have some exciting topics for my upcoming videos and I can't wait to post them! In my last video, I redesigned Princess Polly's logo. You can check that out here.

Thank youuuuuu <3
