HOW TO USE PINTEREST TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS
Social media has shifted and adapted immensely over the years. We’ve seen apps and websites grow and die within years or months of their release. However, some major platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter) still stick around. Today, we’ll take a look into the importance of utilizing Pinterest in your social media plan.
First, let’s start off with some statistics...
According to Hootsuite
1. Pinterest’s active user base grew 26% to 335 million last year
Meaning Pinterest’s days of fame are far from over and the platform will continue to grow
2. Pinterest is now the third-largest social network in the U.S.
Behind Instagram and Facebook of course.
Using these two statistics, it’s easy to conclude that Pinterest will continue to grow. Pinterest celebrated its decade milestone in January 2020. Meaning it’s survived a lot, and still remained strong. Pinterest isn’t your typical social media platform, where people comment and like each other’s content. Rather, users share the work of others and promote their own works as well. Every pin is an opportunity to advertise a product. With their hyperlink, destination website feature, it makes it easy to draw traffic to your website using a visual aid.
Advertising is heavily visual, playing into our psychological mind as humans. Colors, shapes, and patterns all generate a meaning. This is the basic science behind logos. However, we’ll get into that more another day.
Here are my top tips for using Pinterest to Grow your Business
Utilize Pinterest’s business feature. Take your time and fill out all the information you can. Include a captivating bio and high res profile picture.
Read Pinterest’s Business Page. This site is full of great tools, insights, and trends they’ve observed on the platform. This is a foolproof plan on what to incorporate into your own content.
Maximize your content by sharing posts on multiple platforms. When creating a post on any platform, it’s smart to post to all your other social channels as well. This generates cross traffic amongst your social media pages. It’s also incredibly efficient.
Create great visuals. You don’t have to be a Photoshop or Illustrator expert to do this. Use free design platforms, like Canva to create beautiful templates. Your brand should be unique and cohesive, try to stick to one color palette and similar font styles. So many times, I see great photographs of Pinterest, ruined by cheesy graphics. Create a mood board for your brand and emulate the graphic styles you're drawn to.
Quality photos. This goes hand in hand with visuals. However, no font or graphic can embellish an ugly photo. Again, you don’t need to be a professional. Use natural lighting and simple filters to enhance your photo. If you have stage lighting, even better (but natural is free). Customers are way more likely to click on a good looking photo than an ugly one, think about it.
Use the new sections tool. This new feature helps break down Pinterest even more. It’s basically a board within a board, which helps filter your content and increase engagement.
Share other people’s works. This is what Pinterest is all about, so do it! Share content of like minded creators like you. This helps create online relationships, which are key to a loyal follower base. To make things even easier, use a scheduler like Tailwind.
Tailwind. Tailwind is great for creating efficient content. Automated schedulers work amazing for any social media platform. However, Tailwind also has a ‘Communities’ feature that helps reach large audiences within your niche.
Include your logo or url within your graphic. This will subliminally make viewers remember your page. Especially if your logo is memorable.
Make detailed descriptions on your pins. This not only helps make viewers more intrigued with your content, it helps with SEO on the backend.
I could go on and on about Pinterest. It seriously is an amazing platform for business growth. Pinterest allows viewers to observe large amounts of content quickly, which works wonders for brands. Also consider running ads on Pinterest to maximize engagement.
Follower count is a vanity metric. It doesn’t matter how many followers you get on any social media platform. Social media is all about creating a loyal online community. This is key to your business surviving in the digital age.
